Hey Gals

I'm going to a friends birthday dinner on Saturday night at a Silver Service restaurant in Brisneyland (marco polo at the casino) and have said yes, but today just realised DUH! it's formal dining, I can't wear jeans to dinner! :shakehead:

So, quick suggestions what can I do?? :penguin:

I'm thinking I might be able to get away with some nice black work pants I have, not sure if I have any shoes that will do (most are a bit ratty from work at the moment)... but should I go all out and wear a frock or would pants be ok?

Has anyone seen any nice tops around lately or outfits I can investigate.

Thanks adorables! :hugs:

Nice black pants, heels and a pretty top will be fine. But by all means wear a frock if you have one you desperately want an excuse to wear!

I'm going to a silver service restaurant tonight actually, and I am going to wear a longsleeved silk blouse from Saba with my black Bettina Liano wide-leg pants.

I think it sounds like a fab excuse to buy a nice new frock. ;)

Hey Nat, checkout their website for an idea on the look of the restaurant. I find that helps to pick a style to go for.
Take the plunge & glam up. So many people these days just wear jeans everywhere. Wear a dress & heels. Just remember to think about how your outfit will look while sitting down - will too much cleavage be on show? will the fabric crush? Is it comfortable? I usually go for a dark colour as I am notorious for spilling food on myself :shakehead: Klutz.
When going to dinner I plan my make up accordingly too. I play up my eyes with a nude lip. Lipstick wears off quickly while eating & you keep having to go reapply it. Too painful.

when you say 'frock' do you mean dressy formal dress? or cross over 3/4 length wrap dress?

Black pants with a dressy top wil be fine, but make sure you have some dressy shoes on. Some ideas

- black 3/4 dress with tights and boots
- Knee lenth skirt, stockings, heals, wrap long slv top
- Cream straight leg pants, pretty silk top, femanine dress jacket, heals, and a scarf
- Black pants, blouse/top, pointy heals, dress jacket, scarf

You know what? I was thinking of starting this thread myself!
I have a flash lunch to go to this weekend & not a damn thread to wear. There are number of tricky hurdles. I have to play coporate wife as I will be lunching my boy's boss & some important HO people from OS. Its a lunch so I can't very well glam up too much or wear all black :( And worst of all it is positively freezing with rain expected. I have a very small winter wardrobe.

Any suggestions?

Nattieb do you have a black strapless dress at all? I love wearing a strapless dress with fab high heels and a pashmina with a clutch bag - I love the whole bare shoulders thing, I feel very sexy and glam (even if I'm cold). I'm sure you could find a black strapless cocktail-length dress pretty easily in Myer, DJs, or a few smaller shops in the mall.

Looks lovely M. Maybe a nice wrap dress, with either nice heels, or even nice boots, with some flash (not flashy) accessories. A dark dress with a statement necklace maybe?

Hey nattie, I'm with the other gals - you'd be fine with a nice pair of black pants (so flattering, a wardrobe staple!), a pretty evening top and heels. You could take a pashima/wrap to throw around your shoulders in case it gets cold. And if you have long hair, maybe an up-do would dress it up a bit more even?

Alternatively you can't go wrong with the classic Little Black Dress, cocktail-length would be perfect.

you can def wear black during the day and add some colour. How about all black but a beige 3/4 skirt?

Great-looking place M. Rosie's suggestion of boots with a dress is good, do you have knee-length boots? Or you could also do nice black/dark pants with kitten or mid-height heels, a fabulous coat (can really pull a winter outfit together as the 'statement piece' - you can do both tailored and fun) and beautifully polished makeup....?

FAAAAREEEEZIIING!!

I would say wear a dress if it has a high neck and is floor length so you can wear thermals underneath!! Check the snow jacket at the door....ok ok maybe a little melodramatic but its still pretty cold.

I love the idea of the nice pants, nice top idea. Speshly if it get draughty in that place :waving:

Well I have a lovely silk top in beigey colours from Basque in myer.

It should look ok with black pants.. but i have a couple of brownish pants that it'd prob go better with and then i have some cream peep toe shoes... so i'll have to try it all on and decide but it's quite lovely the top!

So I had my lunch thing on Sunday & this is what I ended up wearing.
Black stilletto knee high boots
A greyish mauve skirt
Purple fine knit top
Black tailored denim jacket. Inspired by Sass & Bide but made by Sportsgirl.
Black Fendi Spy bag

The restaurant was nice with a fantastic view but the food was a bit of let down. I am very fussy but when you are paying $40 a main you are entitled to be fussy don't you think? It was nice but not worth the $$$. Our overseas guests were impressed & that's what mattered.

I had my 'thing' on Sat night too... it was a lovely night, I wore my new silk top, black pants, black ballet flats and my metallic goldish clutch... noice!

The restaurant itself is lovely but the food was east meets west so a little bit diff but still rather nice.... :glee:

Ohmigod I have one of those and I simply LOVE it. It was sooo funny when I was trying it on though, it looks so small and you never think you'll be able to get it on. Anyway I had it up to my knees and I was thinking "Oh God this will never happen" and the sales assistant girl is outside the curtain going "You really have to YANK it! It won't break! Pull it hard!" and I was laughing so much and trying not to fall over with this thing sucking in all my thigh fat....oh man too funny!

:chuckle: Ha ha ha ha!

I found this great birthday card for a friend who loves BJ. Has a pic of a granny on the front holding a huge pair of knickers; comes with a badge that says "I :hearts: Big Pants." I'm going to make her wear it to dinner.
